Tracing The Success Story of Ravi Pillai : RP Group of Companies

Born in Kerala to a farming family, Ravi Pillai has become a successful construction tycoon. His net worth is approximately $1.7 billion

It is worth hearing the story of Ravi Pillai, and how he built a multi-billion-dollar business empire. This is especially important for aspiring entrepreneurs. He left his home in Kerala to seek riches in the late 1970s and has since become one of the most successful businessmen in India. His story is nothing short of a tale of rags to riches. He started a chit fund with borrowed money, then moved to Kerala to start an engineering contract company. He is now the Chairman, Managing Director, and founder of Middle East-based RP Group of Companies.

Pillai was a foreigner who had never traveled abroad before and didn't know anyone. It was difficult for him to get started. He worked as a partner with Abdullah Juan, a businessman, during his two first years in Saudi Arabia.

Soon thereafter, they joined forces with Nasser al-Hajri. Today, Nasser Al-Hajri Corporation ranks among the top general contractors in the Middle East. Pillai, who was a more than 50 percent partner in the company, later founded RP Group.

It started with just 120 employees. Pillai's hard work and determination helped the RP group secure several infrastructure projects and defense-related construction contracts at a time when Indian businesses were not likely to get notable projects in the Middle East. His early successes include the construction of Riyadh Airport's Royal Air Terminal.
